I've noted a Northern Parula at nearly every mile along the part of the Capital Crescent Trail near the C & O Canal in DC/Bethesda.  No stopping required, just listen for the calls.

We were once hiking/birding along the C&O canal with a mix of people that liked to bird more versus hike more. At one point, a non-birder said, "Haven't we seen enough birds yet?"
