Someone had mentioned the idea of hiking the entire A.T. and keeping a bird
list. In 1971 James Wolf hiked the entire A.T. and kept a detailed list.
His account of the hike, and the list, is included in Hiking the
Appalachian Trail-Volume 2, Rodale Press, 1975. Apparently this book is out
of print, but it is available as a used book. For some reason he does not
report any Barred Owls, which I saw or heard on many occasions in the
southern States when I did the Trail in 1974-75.
