You can read MDOsprey posts on Birdingonthe.net two different ways. If
you click on "Regional/Specialty" (under Mailing Lists) you see a
"Regional Mail" page with a large number of bird, butterfly, and bug
lists from around the country and the world. Clicking on any one of
them will bring you recent posts of that list. Today, you can read
Virginia's posts from July 10 through 10 minutes ago, as an example,
but in the case of Maryland, you can now read posts from July 12 only
through Norm Saunders post of July 19. I believe Jack Siler needs to
be a subscriber to be able to include MDOsprey on his Regional Mail
page and perhaps Norm cancelled Siler's subscription. It would be a
real shame if MDOsprey were no longer accessible this way.

The other way of reading MDOsprey posts on Birdingonthe.net is to click
on the " List Archives Index." You will then see a page with the names
of birding list archives from around the US and Canada. Those that are
public archives are listed as such, and MDOsprey is among them. This is
an extremely useful site, as Jack Siler explains in his introduction,
"For example, say you're going to Texas in winter. You really want to
see a Blue Bunting. Search the Texas Archives for Blue Bunting and see
when and where folks had seen them in the past." Some lists, like Yahoo
Groups, require membership, and then archives of those lists are
available only to members.

I don't have to tell all of you that Maryland is a great birding state.
Spreading the word benefits everyone. Although it's hardly the only
way for out-of-state birders to learn about birding in Maryland, using
Birdingonthe.net to search the list and learn about local hot spots and
when to look for interesting species is easy and convenient. The use
of Birdingonthe.net should be encouraged, not boycotted.
