This (Saturday, 7/31) morning Rob Hilton & I saw the two SNOWY EGRETS at
Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens that had been reported earlier in the week.
Water levels were very high, so the only shorebirds were a SPOTTED SANDPIPER
on some logs and a GREATER YELLOWLEGS that made a pass through the lagoon
and continued on. Later in morning we went to Kenilworth Park and found a
few more shorebirds in the wet grass, including 1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 2
LEAST SANDPIPERS, c.13 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and about as many KILLDEER.

Still plenty of local passerines about, including BALTIMORE and ORCHARD
ORIOLES, and RED-EYED and WHITE-EYED VIREOS, as well as presumed
migrants/wanderers such as BARN SWALLOWS (I wonder how far they've strayed
from nesting grounds by now).

The number of LAUGHING GULLS at Anacostia River Park is increasing, and
FORSTER'S TERNS are now "in" and will be here into the fall. GREAT EGRETS
are now well represented along the Anacostia too, with at least 15 scattered
up and down the river.

Good birding,
