Poplar Island Sightings of July 29th

This report is provided on behalf of Jan Reese, who makes regular visits to
Poplar Island to census the birds that are present.
        A total of 42 species were observed on July 29th.  Birds recorded
include those observed on or around the various island cells, and also the
birds seen offshore, including those seen during the boat ride from Tilghman
to Poplar.
        Double-crested Cormorant - 1040, Great Blue Heron - 83, Great Egret
- 2, Snowy Egret - 37, Tri-colored Heron - 1, Cattle Egret - 4, Canada Goose
- 3, European Mute Swan - 10, American Black Duck - 1, Mallard - 19,
Northern Pintail - 1, Surf Scoter - 7, White-winged Scoter - 1, Black Scoter
- 2, Osprey - 20, Bald Eagle - 4, Semipalmated Plover - 24, Killdeer - 18,
American Avocet - 10, Greater Yellowlegs - 23, Lesser Yellowlegs - 785,
Willet - 5, Spotted Sandpiper - 3, Sanderling - 10, Semipalmated Sandpiper -
941, Least Sandpiper - 515, Pectoral Sandpiper - 4, Stilt Sandpiper - 7,
Short-billed Dowitcher - 24, Laughing Gull - 150, Ring-billed Gull - 9,
Herring Gull - 221, Grea Black-backed Gull - 492, Common Tern - 205,
Forster's Tern - 2, Least Tern - 10, American Crow - 4, Tree Swallow - 4,
Barn Swallow - 64, European Starling - 7, Northern Cardinal - 1, and
