When we pulled into our driveway earlier this evening (the one in
Montgomery County), I noticed Sharp-shinned Hawk floating serenely
over our neighborhood. It was a pretty big bird, likely a female,
and the fist sharpie we've had here since early Spring.

Come on, migration!
Hi Norm,
Yesterday morning when out with the dog at the pond I had an accipiter fly
along and under the far hedgerow, looking to scare up something for breakfast I
imagine. I never saw exactly which species it was, but my brief look made me
think Sharpie, as it was followed closely behind by a Red-shouldered Hawk
(much larger). The "shoulder" came back up around the other side and flew back
into the field, while the accipiter stayed lurking in the trees in the hedgerow.

The Red-shoulders were also interesting to watch, as there are 5 now in the
field, 2 adults and what I think are the 3 young of the year. It seems the
adults are trying to get the young to leave the territory and go out on their own
(I sort of know the feeling P:-) ). Lots of flying back and forth and
calling, screaming, etc. the past week, and every morning they are out and about now.

We're heading down to Bombay Hook on Saturday for what may be a glorius
weather day, hopefully a glorius shorebird day as well!

See ya,
Rick
