Hi all,
I had a bit of spare time late yesterday AM and stopped at Lake Needwood for
a look. Only really interesting bird was an odd looking duck in the water,
preening mostly. It appeared to be a hybrid MallardxN. Shoveler, with
characterisitics of both. It had the head shape of a mallard, with the color like either
species and a deep yellow eye. Its bill, while shaped like a mallards, was
blue like a shoveler. It had a darkish belly, but rufous flanks like a shoveler,
and a dark rear without the curly tail tip like a mallard. Very odd indeed,
and I don't have any idea how long its been there.

2 Great Egrets, 5-6 Green Herons, and 3 Great Blues, and a flyover Red-tailed
Hawk were the only other birds of note. No shorebirds were seen as water
levls were high.
