Hi all --

The strong cold front prompted Barry and me to go to Rock Creek Park, DC
this morning, and we were not disappointed -- being rewarded with good looks
at an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER perched at the tip of a dead snag next to the
Nature Center. We first saw the bird at about 8 am and watched it off and on
for about 20 minutes, although much of the time it sallied off to perches
out of view. The tree it favored was at the NE corner of the Nature Center
area, between the building and the "meadow walk" trail.

Otherwise it was rather quiet, with no other definite migrants, although we
saw Red-eyed Vireo, Great Crested FC, Wood-pewee, Phoebe, Acadian FC, Wood
Thrush, about 10 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, one female Baltimore Oriole and
about 5 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds (which could be migrants). All of these
species do breed in Rock Creek. A very nice morning out, however, and it
really felt like autumn!
