I chased the Black Terns this morning and observed about sisteen above the rapids at Violett's Lock. About 11:00 AM, a group started flying upriver. I counted 29, though there were a few flying higher and could have been missed, about four remained at the rapids. What an awesome sight! Thanks to Dave and Mary Ann for finding and posting.

I have some photos of part of the group of 35 Black Terns at Violette's Lock,
soaring up and away in a kettle. A lot of the terns and gulls do this when
leaving the river. I guess they like to get up high to continue their migration.
