Lake Roland, Baltimore County, 3:30-5:30 PM, 8-10-04:
Mudflats at the north end of the lake are twice the size they were a few weeks ago. Shorebirds have noticed!

Killdeer--2
Spotted--1
Greater Yellowlegs--2
Lesser Yellowlegs--4
Peep sp.--200+

Most of the 50-60 peeps I saw well were Leasts. At least 1 was a Semi-Sand, and I believe 1 was a White-rumped. All were well up on the mudflats (good habitat for Leasts). Other peeps were at the water's edge, but in an area very difficult to scope.

The probable White-rumped was dark-legged, larger than the Leasts, fairly heavy striping on breast, a few white feathers peeping out from behind the tail. Primaries appeared long, but I did not get a great look.

Also seen-- green heron, great blue heron, great egret, belted kingfisher, osprey, red-tailed hawk.
