Merganser Pond at the Wildlife Viewing Area of Patuxent North Tract
has been drained, apparently for several weeks now. At 6:30 p.m. today
there were 13 Great Egrets, 4-5 Snowy Egrets (1 adult, several immature,
that were giving me fits trying to figure them out!), 3 Green Heron, 1
Great Blue, 1 Greater Yellowlegs, 3 Spotted Sandpipers, and 1 Solitary
Sandpiper. Plus some great looks at two Beaver.
Visitors must check in at the Visitor Contact Station. Get there by
6:30 p.m. if you want to see anything. Gates close at 7:30 p.m. Gates
open at 8:00 a.m.
