At the sod farm on John Brown Road late Saturday(8/7) afternoon I spotted a
juvenile Baird's Sandpiper. The bird got spooked and relocated out of sight
before Jim Brighton got on it.

Sunday(8/8) Jim and I headed to the ORV zone on Assateague Island.
Highlights were 3 Black Tern, 40+ Whimbrel, 1 Red Knot, 1 Lesser
Black-backed Gull.

On Sunday, I drove past the sod farm again, not a shorebird in sight. The
borrow pit was also empty, mostly grown over with little water. The Spring
Road empoundments in Talbot County are overgrown and had no shorebirds. If
any one finds any new empoundments under construction I would sure like to
know. It seems that these empoundments are good for shorebirds for about a
year before becoming to overgrown with cattails and other vegetation.
