Hi all Just a short report that with all the temping reports of
the Curlew Sandpiper from Assateague Island I deciced to take off work on
Fri to chase the bird. Arrived at the Island at about 9:30 am started the
walk north up the beach lots of sandlerings about . Checked all reported
areas where bird was seen 8.5 , 8.0 , 7.5 . I was about to lose hope
when off in the distance from 7.5 looking northwest I saw a bird on the
edge off a pool that looked right . I moved in closer sure enough there it
was, this was at noon time . There was a marker near there marked 7.27 that
looked to be right across from it . So I picked my way to that and started
scaning again . refound the Curlew much closer. Also should Mention that
briefly checking from near 7.5 there looked to be a second Curlew
Sandpiper in winter plumage next to the first this was at a distance and
something flushed some of the shorebirds inclulding this one and when I got
closer near 7.27 never saw it again . I got Some passable Photos of the
Curlew . A nice bird dispite the molting . this was a state bird for me .
also should mention that also here were 3 Piping Plover Also a State bird
for me, other birds worth mentioning 7 Black Terns 1 still in Breeding
Plumage , Several Royal Terns , Least Terns , Willets [Eastern ] 1 Ruddy
Turnstone , lots of Semipalmated plovers , 1 Brown Pelican flying up and
down the beach. song birds seen even though I was not really look for them 1
