Got a good long look (without binoculars) this afternoon at
what I believe is a Budgie (Budgerigar/Parakeet/whatever --
I'm no expert) that was feeding with the House Sparrows on
the University of Maryland campus in Collge Park, next to
the Computer and Space Sciences building. It's virtually
all yellow, save for what looked to be a dark green rump
patch. Maybe female (no blue on the face). The tail is as
long as the body, and sharply pointed (in flight shaped like
a Mourning Dove's tail). Long primary extension. Typical
hooked beak, kinda pinkish. Orangish legs/feet. Dark eye.
Size larger than the sparrows, though not as pudgy in shape
(the tail contributes to that impression). Seemed to like
dandelion tufts in the grass. Had a hard time picking stuff
off the sidewalks with that beak.

Presumably an escapee. Has anyone else seen it? Any chance
it will survive the winter?...

Cheers,

Derek
