Had two beautiful 1st Fall Baltimore Orioles eating berries on a nearby Black Cherry tree. They stuck around for quite a while; long enough, anyway, for me to figure out what they were. I thought I'd been hearing an Oriole call in the area, but hadn't been able to locate them.
Just before they showed up, a Blue-winged Warbler had also been in that same tree, then flew into another one in our yard.
Later, a Red-eyed Vireo checked out the berrries. This looked like a worn adult, in contrast to a freshly-plumaged one I saw on Sunday.
Still many Ruby-throated Hummingbirds hitting the feeders. One adult female looks like she's beginning to put on weight. A skinny juvenile looked like it hasn't even given migration a thought, if weight is any indication. At least one adult male is still trying to protect his rights to the feeders (but seems to be slacking off; he chases, but not with the enthusiastic aggressive displays of a few weeks ago; looks a little worn, too).
Good birding,
