Hi all --

As might have been expected, somewhat slow at Rock Creek Park DC what with
the SW wind and warm temperatures. Nevertheless some nice birds were seen.
The ridge (picnic areas 17/18) was inactive, as is usual on days when there
hasn't been much migration. Recent whacking down of native fruit-bearing
vines (fox grapes, Virginia creeper) will not help the attraction of this
are. Unfortunately the maintenance crew at RCP does not interact much with
the naturalists, leading to this sort of problem. (They left the invasive
porcelain berry and bittersweet vines, go figure...)

However the maintenance yard/stable area was pretty good, with a good
turnout of birders as well.

Warblers: Kentucky (1), Blue-winged (1), Black-and-White (2), Canada (2),
Chestnut-sided (2), Redstart (1), Common Yellowthroat (2).

Others: Least Flycatcher (1), Acadian FC (1), Wood-pewee (2), Baltimore
Oriole (15), Red-eyed Vireo (6), Warbling Vireo (1), Wood Thrush (2), Brown
Thrasher (1), YB Cuckoo (1, hrd), Ruby-throated Hummingbird (3).

We had to leave a bit early so probably other birds will be reported from
this area.
