In the past, as recently as yesterday, I have seen Great Blue Herons crusing
over the Susquehanna Flats and then sitting down in very deep water and
grabbing a fish. They will sit there for a few minutes like a duck while
they swallow the fish and then take off. they seem to be very careful about
not getting thier wings wet, but other than that they seem to be very
comfortable "swimming" in deep water.
