Tricolored Herons at Horsehead

        Apologies for the late post on this...

        There were still 5-6 TRICOLORED HERONS on 9/4/04 at the Chesapeake Bay
Environmental Center ("the refuge formerly known as Horsehead Wetland
Center") in Grasonville, MD. They were found at Lake Knapp, actively feeding
and, alternately, sitting in trees by the lakeshore. Most appeared to be
juveniles.

        Other birds noted were:

        Semipalmated Plover (1-2)
        Lesser Yellowlegs (2)
        Killdeer (2+)
        Great Egret
        Snowy Egret
        Great Blue Heron
        Osprey, (3+)
        Mute Swan (1)
        Canada Geese (abt 100)
        Hummingbird, sp. - probably Ruby-Throated
        Grey Catbird
        Black Duck
        Carolina Chickadee
        American Golfinch

        BUTTERFLIES:
        Buckeye
        Red-Spotted Purple
        Pearly Crescentspot
        American Painted Lady

        DRAGONFLIES:
        Blue Corporal
        Common Whitetail
        Eastern Pondhawk (f)

        SPIDERS:
        Black and Yellow Argiope
