Greetings from Western MD ...

I had 12 species of Warblers and just overall good numbers of birds
this morning. I checked Rocky Gap first. It was disappointing with
only a few Killdeer on the foggy beach. So I headed to the 15 mile
creek exit (from I-68) and headed south. Up on top of Green Ridge Road
today 9/12/04, I had the following (numbers are of course approximate)
...

(I put birds that I would classify as migrants or ... "birds that I
don't think breed in the forest" in bold print)

Turkey Vulture - 3
RS hawk - 2
RT Hawk - 1
RB Woodpecker - 2
Hairy Woodpecker - 2
Downy Woodpecker - 5
YS Flicker - 1
E. Wood Peewee - 3
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER - 1 (killer looks with bird eventually flying in
to perch directly above my head)
Red-eyed Vireo - 14
Blue-headed Vireo - 3 (some may breed in GRSF but most of these are
probably migrants)
Yellow-throated Vireo - 1
Blue Jay - 8
Am. Crow - 2
Common Raven - 1
White-breasted Nuthatch - 1
E. Tufted Titmouse - 2
Black-capped Chickadee - 12
Carolina Wren - 3
Gray Catbird - 1
Cedar Waxwing - 30
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 3
Hooded Warbler - 4 (still singing)
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER - 2
BAY-BREASTED WARBLER - 1
Pine Warbler - 18
MAGNOLIA WARBLER - 1
Black-throated Green - 3
Chestnut-sided Warbler - 3
BLUE-WINGED WARBLER - 1
TENNESSEE WARBLER - 1
NASHVILLE WARBLER - 1
Black and White Warbler - 1
American Redstart - 2
Eastern Towhee - 6
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 2
Indigo Bunting - 3
Am. Goldfinch - 12

Thrushes have been flying over my house (in Frostburg) early in the
morning (some today but lots yesterday morning). Numbers (and in some
cases ID's ?!!?) are approximate.

This morning 9/12 (~ 5:30-5:45 am)
Veery - 6
Swainsons - 5
Wood - 4

Yesterday 9/11 (~ 5:15 - 5:40 am)
Veery ~20 ?
Swainsons - 4
Wood - 7

Activity at North Branch has dropped off with todays results as
evidence. Only a few Killdeer, a single least Sandpiper, and a Spotted
Sandpiper (heard) along the canal.

Good Birding ...
