Overcast skies and calm wind conditions resulted in a very low hawk count at Cromwell Valley
Park on Sunday,Sept 12th. One participant said there were more hawk-watchers present than
hawks! However, at about 1:30pm a kettle of 31 Broad-winged hawks was spotted as skies
began to clear up. Several Bald Eagles were seen, but they were probably not migrants. By 2:
30pm our count was as follows:
Broad-winged hawk-35
Sharp Shinned hawk-10
Osprey-4
Coopers hawk-1
For anyone who would like to join the fun, the hawk-watch will resume again on
Wednesday,Sept.15th at 8:30am at the Willow Grove Farm area and continue through
Wednesday,Sept.22nd. All visitors must obtain a pass from the park office-just tell them
your're here for the hawk-watch. Feel free to E-mail for further info.
