Greetings,

I began Sunday at Turkey Point in Cecil County to look for migrant
passerines and, as you have been reading, Turkey Point did not disappoint.
in two hours of birding I didn't even get to the end of the first field! -
and I had to drag myself away birds were everywhere. Mike Burchett was
there and together we found loads of birds. Highlights for me included a
great look at a basically plumed Scarlet Tanager, a quick look at an
Alternately plumed Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Yellow-throated Vireo, and a
flyby juvie Merlin that was obviously on the hunt. I am sure warbler
species numbers were well into double digits but due to the birds height in
the trees and the poor early light conditions only 6 species were able to
be identified by me. Those were Black-throated Green, Black-throated Blue,
Black and White, Redstart, Common Yellowthroat, and Magnolia. Screech Owls
have been very vocal here in the past several weeks and continue to be so.
Empids were conspicuously absent though? In fact flycatchers in general
were poorly represented as only a few pewees were seen/heard and just one
Great-crested was seen! A Cooper's Hawk was also seen on Route 272 north of
the park picking at a dead crow on the road.

Yesterday afternoon I had to report in to work (blah!) but I did manage to
steal a couple of hours to bird the Edgewood Area of APG. Here I added
Great Egret, Killdeer, Caspian Tern, Forster's Tern, and American Kestrel,
among others, to my days list.

Good Birding,
