Does this mean that Ringler, Stasz and Illiff will someday be mentioned
along with Audubon, Wilson and the other greats? Oh dear.

Just throwing in my 2 cents - Except for Thoreau and maybe Emerson, the
writers Harry says are out of the mainstream are more familiar to me than
his mainstream guys. Of course, as everyone already knows, this reader is
way out of the mainstream and glad to be there.
Assigned reading for everyone - Roderick Frazier Nash, Wilderness and
the American Mind. I expect a full report from somebody by the end of the
week- now get reading! Hint- Nash explains very nicely how we got into this
mess in the first place. How many out there have read Guns, Germs and Steel
yet? And by the way the author, Jared Diamond, is also a sometime
ornithologist.
As far as I'm concerned, Harry, these guys are the real mainstream.
Now that Harry has again raised the bar on the level of threads on here,
I'll go take a nap.

From out of the mainstream.
