Hi All,
Migration has been rather slow, but steady, in the glorious high pressure weather of this week after all the storminess and wind during the weekend. Today was a very good day for our yard as we garnered three new "yard year birds". These included a Snowy Egret passing over the house, a male Bay-breasted Warbler, and (yes) four Rock Pigeons zipping overhead - we don't see many out here at Chesapeake Landing. We also had our fourth Red-breasted Nuthatch of the week suggesting a possible flight year in the offing. We had a Ruby-throated Hummer at our feeders today, so they are not quite done yet. A few hawks passed over this morning including four Sharp-shins and an adult Broad-wing. Other Broad-wings have included an adult sunning atop the tulip poplar on our drive yesterday (22 Sept), and two soaring with a young and an adult Bald Eagle on the 21st. Other nice birds from earlier in the week were a late Eastern Kingbird and the arrival of the first of three sapsuckers this week on Monday (the 20th).
Good Birding,
Walter Ellison
