I visited the hawkwatch at Cromwell Valley Park today. The only other observer present was Gene Schultz. After a very slow morning with only a trickle of Broad-wings we saw kettles of 300 and 400 pass by between 1115 and 1145. They appeared to be coming from the NE and moving out on a westerly heading, difficult to tell when they are not overhead. After an adult Bald Eagle passed at about noon I left. Gene will give the final totals to Jim Meyers to post later. We also saw Osprey, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, and Kestrel. I also counted 112 Blue Jays, 1 Scarlet Tanager, and heard 1 Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
Late in the afternoon I visited the Mason Dixon Farm in Frederick County. Birds at the east pond were 2 Semipalmated Plovers, 2 Killdeer, 1 Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 Spotted Sandpiper, 15 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 33 Least Sandpipers, 7 Pectoral Sandpipers, and 8 Savannah Sparrows.
