Ospreyers,

You are cordially invited to attend the first meeting of the Anne Arundel Bird Club for the program year on this Friday, October 1, at 8:00 pm in the DNR conference room of the Tawes Building on Taylor Avenue in Annapolis. The program is entitled:

CATS INDOORS!: EFFORTS TO PREVENT THE KILLING OF HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF BIRDS AND SMALL MAMMALS.
Linda Winter, Director of American Bird Conservancy''s Cats Indoors! Campaign, has led this national citizen education effort since it began in 1997. Cats Indoors!, The Campaign for Safer Birds and Cats is designed to encourage cat owners to keep their cats indoors and to support the humane, permanent removal of domestic cats from important wildlife areas. Linda's Power Point presentation will review recent studies of cat predation on wildlife, ways to get involved in the Cats Indoors! Campaign, and the controversial issue of "managed" cat colonies. Recommendations for resolving free-roaming cat overpopulation issues will be discussed, and campaign materials will be distributed. A portion of the award-winning National Geographic video, "The Secret Life of Cats" will also be shown. Ms. Winter's 18-year conservation career includes positions with Defenders of Wildlife, National Wildlife Federation, Izaak Walton League of America, and the League of Conservation Voters. She has conducted lobbying and citizen education campaigns on issues such as wetlands protection, the Chesapeake Bay, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and Florida's black bear. Ms. Winter has a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Resources from West Virginia University. She has owned cats for 25 years, and her current cat, Tiger, resides happily indoors.
