A Glossy Ibis was at Lake Roland today at 5 PM. A fairly common bird on the coast, but this is my first Glossy Ibis at Lake Roland.

Directions (more detail than usual): From the main, Hollins Ave. entrance off Lake Ave., go across the bridge and up the hill. In the picnic area, bear left and go down the path to the Light Rail tracks. Cross the tracks, follow the main path the whole length of the lake, and turn right onto the embankment trail (you go up for the first few yards). Take the next right-hand trail down to the concrete platform. The bird was in the inlet or pool directly across from the platform. It was easy to see and enjoy with binoculars.

With any luck this bird will stick around for a few days. There is good habitat for shorebirds and waders in the park.
