Hi --

Slower than expected at Rock Creek Park DC today, after such a cold night.
At the ridge as the sun rose, quite a promising flurry of activity
(consisting mostly of a large flock of Golden-Crowned Kinglets) but after
that it was scrape scrape scrape for the birds. The seasons are definitely
changing when you see more sparrows than warblers! We saw our first Juncos,
Yellow-rumps (at Rock creek, that is) and Winter Wren of the season as well.

Bird seen at the ridge, maintenance yard, Nature Center, and Military Field:

Warblers: Black-throated Blue (4), Black-throated Green (5), Magnolia (1),
Nashville (1), Palm (Eastern) (1), Redstart (1), Tennessee (1), Yellowthroat
(4).

Other migrants: Y-B Sapsucker (1), Blue-headed Vireo (1), White-eyed Vireo
(1), Red-eyed Vireo (5), Scarlet Tanager (2), Grey-cheeked Thrush (1), Veery
(1), Swainson's Thrush (1), Wood Thrush (1), thrush sp. (2), Brown Thrasher
(2), Gray Catbird (~12, numbers down a lot) Eastern Phoebe (6),
White-throated Sparrow (~30), Swamp Sparrow (2), Chipping Sparrow (8),
Indigo Bunting (2), Junco (4), House Wren (6), Winter Wren (1), Red-breasted
Nuthatch (2, really nice!). Large number of Grackles, Flickers, Towhees,
Robins and Jays on the move as well. A large Cooper's Hawk flushed in the
Yard.
