I visited Allen's Fresh, Cobb Neck, and a little of Chapel Point S. P. today. Birds of note or new for the month (*) were:
Great Egret* - Cobb Island - flying by the sewage treatment plant at Breeze Point
40 Mallard* - Allen's Fresh
1 Black Duck* - Allen's Fresh
Ruddy Duck* - one bird at Allen's Fresh around 1 PM
Bald Eagle - two adults near the Ruddy making it nervous
Marsh Hawk* - one female, one male at Allen's Fresh early
Cooper's Hawk - maybe the same one as yesterday over the Bowling Farm
American Kestrel - four on the telephone wires at the farm.
35 Killdeer - Bel Alton turf farm - flushed by some raptor I never saw. Nothing else in the flock - I looked.
22 Royal Tern, ~50 Forster's Terns, and one Caspian Tern* at Morgantown.
Red-headed Woodpecker - one adult, one immature at Allen's Fresh. This species is moving into the area for the winter.
Screech Owl - Allen's Fresh
5 Chimney Swift - Hatton Creek Road on Cobb Neck.
Red-breasted Nuthatch - one at Allen's Fresh in the Cedar Trees
House Wren - Allen's Fresh
Magnolia Warbler - near Rock Point on Cedar Lane
Scarlet Tanager - Chapel Point S. P.
Swamp Sparrow* - Allen's Fresh and Cedar Lane.
Indigo Bunting - Allen's Fresh
Eastern Meadowlark* - singing on the Bowling farm.
Heading up Pomonkey Creek in the morning. Wish me luck.
