Just to add a short note for Mac users: there's a program called Wings which is quite good. It is
very flexible, allowing the creation of endless different records, locations, observers, etc., and then
allowing you to sort your records in lots and lots (and lots...) of different ways. It seems to have
been made by a math/computer science professor and birder in Canada (hence its very powerful
database functions), and best of all, it's free.

I have no connection with the person who wrote this program; I just think it's great, and
surprisingly unknown, especially since there are so few good options for Mac users.

It's available here: http://homepage.mac.com/wings_4d/
