I wanted to briefly recommend a new book, called "The Race to Save the Lord God Bird"  by Philip Hoose, available through Howard County Library branches and perhaps others--this is a new release.  It's a very thorough look at the efforts in the early part of the last century to save the habitat of the Ivory Billed Woodpeckers.  Very sad, as this bird's probable demise is linked solely to man's greed.  The last chapter discusses the validity of recent (alleged) sitings.
