I am aware that this behavior occurs in certain sparrow species that occur

this behavior? Thanks.

Gene,
I have seen both Song and Savannah Sparrows do this (it is especially
maddening when you spend 20 minutes trying to find a skulking/running sparrow only
to find it to be a Song Sparrow!). I have also heard that Grasshopper
Sparrows will do this, though I have not witnessed it personally.
