MD Osprey (really, you "old timers"):

I'm  working on updating the MD/DC Records Committee database to
synchronize it with published historical sightings ...

Back on October 6, 1964 an apparent MacGillivray's Warbler was captured and
banded on the eastern shore at Stevensville on Kent Island in Queen Anne's
County, MD by Jane Church. This was a banding project under the "Operation
Recovery" program. I have the banding sheet, however, apparently some of
the other Operation Recovery records cannot be located. Back in 1995, I
wrote Mrs. Church (who lived in AZ at the time) and she provided some
additional written information; however, there was never enough of a
description for the MD/DC Records Committee to review.

I just re-read the file on this bird and I now see that Mrs. Church eludes
to the fact that the bird may have been photographed; in fact, it looks
like the bird's picture may even have appeared on the front page of the
defunct Washington Evening Star newspaper. (The only reference I've found
to an archive or newspaper morgue for the old Washington Star is on
microfilm at the DC Public Library.) The only published reference in
Maryland Birdlife was a mentioned of the bird in MB 22(1):17-22 in an
article entitled, "1964 County Bird Lists" by Hank Kaestner, which
presented the equivalent of our annual MD Osprey "comp" lists, but on a
county-by-county basis (an interesting idea, heh?).

This is a request for any information from anyone who may remember this
bird or can any provide leads on further documentation. Feel free to
respond privately or via the MD Osprey list ... some people may be
interested in following this thread, if anything more comes to light.
