Results of the Sixth Annual Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park Mid-Winter Bird Survey on 01/23/2004, and a report, have finally been completed and are available from me as email attachments. They also should soon be posted on-line at www.dcaudubon.org. The results are on a 20-page Excel worksheet which is a mile-segment x species matrix, plus comparative summaries of prior years.

Some highlights were: deep snow and cold resulting in only 150 miles covered; common species-numbers pretty fair anyway; 85 species; new to the six-year history of this Count were Merlin (Hubbell and Beetham); G-W Teal (Powers); photographed W-W Scoter (Wilkerson and Salvini); Cackling Goose (Ringler).

The 2005 Count will be Saturday January 22, with Sunday Jan. 23 as a make-up day. Please let me know by email if you would like to participate -- as always, birders able and willing to cover the Washington County stretches are especially appreciated.
