I sit (at my computer) corrected. I am flattered that you read
my message - a lot of it was somewhat redundant to other replies.

I completely forgot about the 6 tinamou species in S Mexico and N
Central America. I must have a subconscious bias against the
Paleognaths ("old jaw" birds).

Bill, if we're going to become pedantic about this I think you
meant
to say that the Tinamiformes (Tinamous) remain at the head of the
AOU list, followed then by the Anseriformes (ducks, geese, swans)
and by the Galliformes (chachalacas, guans, pheasants, grouse,
turkey, and quail).
