Folks
John and Carrie Staples were kind enough to take Gwen and I up Pomonkey Creek, Charles County today. A very love visit to this wild rice, wetland habitat. Highlights were:
3 Pine Siskins calling and flying over the head of the creek at we entered.
We also had a single late Osprey
Other birds along the way of note were:
Great Blue Heron - several
Great Egret - one
Bald Eagle - at least two adults
Sharp-shinned Hawk - imm.
Canada Geese - lots
Wood Duck - one
Black Duck - one
Mallards - about 15
Green-winged Tea - one
Killdeer - one
Greater Yellowleg - one
Ring-billed Gull - several
Forster's Tern - two
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - three
Belted Kingfisher - perhaps six
White-breasted Nuthatch - two
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - four
Gray Catbird - one
Brown Thrasher - one
Yellow-rumped Warbler - several
Swamp Sparrow - lots
Purple Finch - brownie that Gwen found, and
other more common stuff - chickadees, song sparrows, goldfinch, red-winged blackbirds, and grackles.
Really a beautiful place to bird. Thanks guys. If I missed any thing of substance John, please post.
