Folks

Much to our delight, Gwen and I observed a short feeding frenzy of 8+ Pine Siskins at our Waldorf, Charles County, MD home. They were visited between the Thistle and Black-oiled Sunflower feeder, and the Pine Tree near the feeder station. In the fray were a couple House Finches and one Brownie Purple Finch. All were photographed. The Siskins are number 126 for the year yard list. This eruptive species can drop in at any time so keep your eyes and ears on. Four other (maybe) brownies had visited early for my morning deck sit.

Other birds of note around the house today were:

Sharp-shined Hawk - 1 hunting early

Downy Woodpecker - peanut butter birds (pbb)
Hairy Woodpecker - pbb
Red-bellied Woodpecker - pbb
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - probably feeding on the Magnolia fruit
Yellow-shafted Flicker - feeder on Black Gum berries
Pileated Woodpecker - calling early from back in the woods

The Red-headed Woodpecker that has reliable been 100 yards down the road for two weeks was silent today, so I was not able to find all seven eastern woodpeckers around the house today. Bummer!

One Red-breasted Nuthatch visited with the six or so resident White-breasted Nuthatches.

Pretty warm and not bad for a day when I was shampooing carpet, cutting grass, and wishing I was out birding.

Regards

George
