Early Saturday morning a Pine Siskin visited our thistle feeder. He
returned from time to time during the day, sharing it with Goldfinches
and House Sparrows. At one point, he remained motionless for about 5
minutes, bill pointed upward as if in avaian predator-sensing mode. But
all around him, Goldfinches were feeding unconcernedly and no pedator
ever appeared. Then he resumed normal behavior.

At the Fran Uhler Natural Area in Bowie, the follwing species, among
others, were seen (or heard):

Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker
N. Flicker (~10)
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Carolina Wren (several -numbers seem to be recovering)
Winter Wren (2)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Hermit Thrush
White-throated Sparrow (many)
Dark-eyed Junco (~40)

Absent were Sapsuckers, G-c Kinglets and Myrtle Warblers.
