Before and after a luncheon meeting at one of the restaurants lining the 
Washington Channel in Washington, DC, today, November 9, I birded briefly 
nearby.  Highlights:

in the Washington Channel along Hains Point:

1 Ruddy Duck
1 Lesser Scaup (hen)


in the Potomac River just upstream of the entrance to the Tidal Basin:

16 Bufflehead

At Hains Point, in the area north of the picnic area and rest rooms that is 
surrounded by chain-link fence, where the NPS keeps mulch:

1 MERLIN  (female-plumaged, possibly a young bird)
