Greetings,

Yesterday when I arrived home from work at 0900 hrs, I was greeted at the
door by my wife who was asking me to hurry in, she had a strange duck on
the water in front of the house. She guessed it was a bufflehead but said
it was a little "off-looking". upon inspection I was happy to find the
first winter male bufflehead diving feverishly in the 3 foot deep water...
Needless to say it stayed only about 30 minutes longer and flew away out of
the cove. There were also two male Hooded Mergs in the cove amoung the
mallards of "dubious origin"...

the Bufflehead was only the second yard record. the first was two Mays ago
when we had one with a broken wing spend the afternoon in the cove.

Good Birding,
Chris Starling
