Hi All,

I have been enjoying all of the finch reports in the MDOsprey postings over the last three weeks or so. One can only hope they're not just passing through leaving us with none to count on CBCs.

Nancy and I have been seeing Purple Finches at our feeder since 23 October. Lately the numbers have become fairly impressive for a single feeding station - 14 today including 11 brown birds (although many have pinkish, buffy and orangey washes somewhere) and 3 pink. We also had a biref visit from a Red-breasted Nuthatch yesterday, and at least one Brown Creeper has been creeping on the trees out back. Today a male Red-bellied Woodpecker finally determined it was cold enough to come in and start hoarding sunflower seeds in caches around the yard. The yard is a great place to start birding before you branch out a bit more.

No siskins here...yet.

Good Birding,

Walter Ellison
