My own personal preference would be to pounce like a cougar on the whole
issue of hunting, but I admit my bias. I have never bought the argument that
hunters have or will save the natural world for us birders. After all, let
us never forget why the Audubon Society was formed. To fight the greed of
hunters.
    In this instance, I am more interested in getting at least cranes off
the list of "game birds". I think the event being discussed here has thrown
the door open for at least that much. If the actions of 7 men have spoiled
it for the others, all I can say is yippee! Let's rock and roll!
