On Monday November 15, I re-visited the house where I grew up in Northwest DC off MacArthur Boulevard, 1 block west of Battery Kemble Park. As I was contemplating the 2 new houses now on the lot, and feeling a bit morose with the inevitable "you can't go home again" feeling, an AMERICAN KESTREL shot through the sky from the direction of Battery Kemble Park, and kept going through the bare tops of the (remaining) majestic tulip poplars.
On Sunday November 14, I watched an immature RED-HEADED WOODPECKER foraging in my yard in Darnestown, Mont. Co. MD. Later that morning a SHARPSHINNED HAWK seized a bird beside the feeder. |
