Hi all,

While leading Baltimore Bird Club trip, only two of
us all day. Paul Noell and myself.

In the mid-afternoon at the Shorter's Wharf, sometimes
after 3pm. I was scanned the bare tree with a eagle
nest on it because I spotted a large tanager/grosbeak
bird at the very top of the tree. I called out to
Paul to check on this mystery bird. Although it was
seen for a very short time, before make a hasty dive
into the scrub and never return again.

The location was north of Shorter's Wharf ramp (called
G. Reese Todd Public Landing), along Maple Dam Rd at
the area of 3400 block (look in ADC Map Book
Dorchester Co. Map 30, page 35.. E 11 & F 11 area).
There are three/four trees out in the middle of
marshes on your right on northbound lane, one was a
bare tree w/ eagle's nest, and others are pine trees
of some kind surrounded by scrub.

At first It might be a first winter male Rose-breasted
Grosbeak, but it has no pattern on breast, more bright
orange/red (flame-like color) on throat & all over
chest, thick bill, very stocky, black cap, very weak
black mask w/ two line across eye, the two wing white
bar was thinner than of our local bird. That all the
description of the Black-headed I saw before it took a
dive. I could't get a look at underwing to see if it
has a lemon yellow like Blackhead or buffy yellow like
Rosebreast. This is the same area where Short-eared
Owl was found recently. We got there early because of
overcast sky. If we got there later, we probably
won't see anything on that bare tree except for
starling and blackbirds.

I don't have the Yellow book with me as of now.

Also there are reports of Snow Bunting in area of stop
#10 along Wildlife Drive and a Western Kingbird along
wire at junction of Rt 335 and end of Wildlife Drive.
Both reported last Thurs (Nov 18 by VA groups). Paul
Noell and I couldn't find those two.

Keep you eyes open while in area.

Full list to come later today. I got get back to work
in basement to make way for my model railroad.
