After years of waiting, and meanwhile thoroughly enjoying the steady and
sometimes frenzied activity from their common cousin the goldfinches, I
finally had the pleasure of seeing siskins in the yard (Croom). They were
doing what they normally do whenever people get to see them. Feeding,
jumping into the fray, and out of it (they seemed a bit shy), and with lots
of vocalizations for me to enjoy. A great winter bird. We also had a
female purple finch, and many numerous common species. Seems like most but
not all of the migrants have passed, and now we can look forward to the
season of the snowbirds. Let's hope it's an exciting one!
