We joined the long list of locales with winter finches, et al., this year ...

Purple Finches. Our first of the season actually showed up on 4 Nov. During
the past week (9 Nov - 15 Nov), birds were noted on five of the seven days
with a maximum of six on 14 Nov (2 males and 4 "brownies").

Pine Siskin. Only one bird was observed on one day, 12 Nov.

Red-breasted Nuthatch. Our first was seen on 8 Nov and during the past
week, a bird was noted on 12, 13 and 15 Nov.

American Goldfinches. While not a winter species, we are noting large
flocks as are other observers. Our largest flock on the feeders was of over
50 birds on 13 Nov.

This report is from Davidsonville, Anne Arundel County, MD.

Phil
