Ospreyers,

Come join us!

Friday, December 3, 2004. BALD EAGLES OF MARYLAND.

Glenn D. Therres, the State's Bald Eagle biologist since 1986, will speak on the remarkable recovery over the last 25+ years of our nation's symbol. The presentation will be in Annapolis at DNR's first floor conference room at 8:00 p.m. this Friday, December 3, 2004. The Bald Eagle was once endangered in Maryland and throughout the lower 48 states. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has been monitoring the nesting population of Bald Eagles in Maryland since 1977. In that year only 41 nesting pairs were documented. Now, over 300 pairs nest in the State. Associated primarily with the Chesapeake Bay, this species has made a significant recovery in Maryland due, in part, to adequate nesting sites and an abundance of prey. Glenn Therres is Associate Director of the Maryland DNR Wildlife and Heritage Service, supervising the Natural Heritage Program, and he has been employed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for over 20 years. He has a B.S. degree in zoology from the University of Maryland and a M.S. degree in wildlife management from Penn State University. Glenn has been a member of MOS since 1976. Glenn writes a regular column for The Maryland Yellowthroat, the MOS newsletter.
