When we were at the Ebre Delta in Spain in June, the local government had
constructed a series of viewing platforms (some very impressively designed!)
with placards illustrating not only the birds and mammals, but also, the
marsh types, landscape (e.g. coastal dunes vegetation, reed beds, salt pans)
and how these were important to the local ecology and economy (tourism,
fishing, shellfish farming). There was a "suggested route" which one could
drive and visit the viewing platforms, and a map was given to all visitors
at the visitors center. While we were there groups of school kids were
getting ready for their bus trip around the delta.
