Hello All,
Shelly and I were leading the Sussex Bird Club trip to OC and coastal
points today. About 10:30 AM, we drove out to the north end of Golf
Course Rd (beyond West Ocean City Pond) to view the bay. Upon turning
around to leave, I spotted a single bird sitting on the power line
(between 10460 and 10468 Golf Course Rd, on the bayside). Stopped and
looked with binos to see a chunky dove with a white stripe clearly
defining the lower edge of its folded wing. After saying something I
probably cannot repeat hear, I jumped out of the car and set up the scope
on the bird. As others in the group took a quick look, we got out the
camera to attempt pictures. That, of course, was the moment that the bird
decided to fly away. In flight, I could see the white bar in the wing and
the stubbiness of its tail (shorter than any Mourning Dove) though the
angle was such that I could not see the tail pattern. It flew off to the
SW, disappearing behind the brick house on the south side of the road.
