Hi --

After looking for the Longspurs along Hughes Road from about 8:15 to about
9:15 -- with mixed success, Barry saw one Lappie on the deck, I saw one
Pipit and then we had Longspurs (two separate birds, I believe) fly over us
calling with both their rattle and "dew" note, before disappearing
(apparently) into the field on the east side of the road. (For only a while,
since Dalcio saw them very soon after in the usual spot). The Horned Larks
were not in a large flock when we were there, but were in scattered groups
of 5-20 birds in various places, including near the "rough area." They flew
around quite a bit but never seemed to settle all together. Patience is the
key here.

From Hughes we drove to the Rt. 121 bridge over Seneca Lake, actually
pulling over on the verge before the usual pulloff to scope, and finding the
Grebe dead close in the cove to the east of the road before the bridge, with
many Coot, Bufflehead and Ruddy Duck. Great looks at last!

Both Lapies and the grebe were county birds for us...
