Do you cherish Maryland's parks and open space?

Maryland's land conservation programs are threatened - again. Maryland
has compiled a list of "excess" State lands that may eventually be
sold to developers. In addition, the continuing transfer of land
conservation funds to other programs critically endangers
Maryland's land conservation program. You can help by
sending the attached letter to Governor Ehrlich and your elected
officials asking them not to sell public lands without a better,
more open process in place and to fully fund State land conservation
programs.

Please act now to save Maryland's nationally recognized land
conservation program - Program Open Space. It is critical that
your elected politicians hear from you about open space and
parks, and why they are so important. If your family spends weekends
bird watching in Patapsco Valley State Park, playing soccer at a local
park, or camping at New Germany State Park, let them know. Use the
area in the center of the attached letter to give real-life examples
of your experiences.

Please don't wait. Send the attached letter today. Budget decisions
are being made now that could impact Program Open Space for years to
come. Tell your elected officials:

 The Governor's Fiscal Year 2006 budget must
include full funding for Program Open Space; and
*  
The Governor should halt all potential sales of POS purchased
lands and establish a land sale process that is technically
sound, transparent, and accountable to the public, including
legislative oversight before conservation lands are sold.
